How to get started

Use the search tool to search for a location. Search address, lot block plan, legal land description, postal code or benchmark name. After the search zooms the map close to a benchmark, clicking the benchmark marker will pop-up a map tip. The map tip contains the benchmark name, elevation and a link titled – Survey Report. Additional Information

Alberta Environment and Parks has installed benchmarks to support its water resource management activities. A benchmark is a relatively permanent object, natural or artificial, whose geodetic elevation is known. The Benchmark data consists of surveyed elevations and the name of the benchmark. The Alberta Government owns these benchmarks, however they may not be under Alberta Government control and there is no way of knowing if a benchmark has been disturbed or destroyed.

Most benchmark locations are calculated to the centre of a quarter-section based on the Alberta Township Survey
